The WRWMC has a location on site for collecting compostable and organic materials. There is a location for brush (tree branches, stumps, etc.) and a compost location for organic materials (grass clippings, leaves, etc). There is no charge for these materials. They are used by our partner AlternativeRoot and processed into environmentally friendly, stable, and life sustaining compost. Accepted Organic Materials:
- Tree/shrub branches, stumps, etc.
- Plants/grass clippings
- Leaves
- Small quantities of food waste
- Food soiled paper (e.g., used coffee filters)
- Certified compostable bags
- Small quantities of pet waste
Prohibited Materials in the brush & compost areas:
- Plastic bags
- Glass
- Metal
- Diapers
- Rubber bands, twist ties, and produce stickers
- Lumber (can be taken to landfill or garbage bins)
Compost Giveaway
Alternative Root is providing a compost giveaway to Westlock County residents, by donation to a local charity. Please report to the scale house for loading instructions and to make your donation.
- Must provide permit card to receive compost
- Bring your own shovel, load at your own risk
- Limit of 500kgs per resident
- Donations will be distributed to a local charity
