The WRWMC is responsible for the Westlock Regional Landfill. It is a class II Municipal Waste Facility which operates under the direction of the Commission Manager. It also operates under the Alberta Government Code of Practice for Landfills.

At the main landfill, there are different areas to offload different types of garbage. Please follow the signs to the correct offload area and any directions given by staff.

Accepted Materials at the landfill or household garbage transfer bins:

  • Residential/household bagged garbage (e.g., styrofoam, glass, film plastics, fabrics, single use packaging, etc.)
  • Institutional/Commercial/Industrial bagged garbage
  • Burn barrel ash (must be cold)
  • Mattresses and box springs (charged by unit, not weight)
  • Creosote railroad ties & power poles
  • Shingles, if separated from other waste
  • Construction & demolition material (e.g., wood, insulation, drywall, etc.)
  • Furniture (e.g., couches, dressers, tables, etc.)
  • Baling net wrap (must be bagged)

*Note: Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) such as bleach, tub & tile cleaners, bug sprays, etc. and used paint & paint cans are accepted in the totes specified for these products. They are at a different location than the garbage bins.

Prohibited Materials:

  • Hazardous waste including hydrocarbon impacted materials
  • Domestic wastewater including grey water and septic water
  • Explosives including ammunition, etc. Contact the RCMP
  • Radioactive waste including medications
  • Biomedical waste including medical syringes
  • Automobiles including recreational vehicles
  • PVC piping over 4 inch diameter and/or 18 inch length

Contaminated Soil

The WRWMC is able to receive contaminated soil, within certain parameters. If you require disposal of contaminated soils, please complete the Soil Application and submit to landfill@wrwmc.com. We will be in touch with you after review of the application and chemical analysis.
